Customers who receive their qualifying mobility allowance from Social Security Scotland have different implementation dates for the latest Motability Scheme changes.
Orders placed before 1 September 2026: the existing Scottish lease terms apply, including a 60,000-mile allowance over a standard three-year car lease.
Orders placed on or after 1 September 2026: new three-year car leases will have a 30,000-mile allowance. Updated tyre replacement, excess mileage and European travel terms also apply.
Existing leases are not changed by the introduction of the new terms. Always refer to the latest Motability Scheme information for the terms applicable to your individual order.

The Motability Scheme enables eligible customers to use their qualifying mobility allowance to lease a new vehicle. The lease package includes a range of running costs such as insurance, servicing, maintenance and breakdown assistance.
You need to receive a qualifying mobility allowance and normally have at least 12 months remaining on your award when applying. Scottish qualifying allowances include the enhanced rate mobility part of Adult Disability Payment and the higher rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment, alongside other qualifying allowances.
The Motability Scheme package includes insurance, routine servicing and maintenance, RAC breakdown assistance, vehicle tax and MOT costs where applicable. Other benefits and conditions are subject to the terms of your lease.
An Advance Payment is an upfront amount required for some vehicles in addition to your qualifying mobility allowance. It is not a refundable deposit. The amount depends on the model and specification selected and should always be checked when placing your order.
