If you receive a qualifying mobility allowance and have at least 12 months remaining on your award, you may be able to use some or all of that allowance to lease a brand-new vehicle through the Motability Scheme.
For customers receiving their qualifying allowance from Social Security Scotland, revised Motability Scheme lease terms apply to new orders placed on or after 1 September 2026.
New three-year car leases have a standard mileage allowance of 30,000 miles. New five-year Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle leases have a standard allowance of 50,000 miles. Existing leases and eligible orders placed before 1 September 2026 remain subject to the terms that applied when they were ordered.

Some Motability vehicles require an upfront Advance Payment in addition to the qualifying mobility allowance. The amount varies according to the vehicle and specification and is not normally refundable at the end of the lease.
The Motability Scheme package includes insurance, servicing and maintenance, breakdown assistance and other support subject to the current Scheme terms. Tyre, windscreen and adaptation support may also be available depending on the vehicle and circumstances.
