Škoda UK has launched a new TV advert campaign titled ‘Electric, but Škoda’, offering a playful and clever take on the outdated stereotypes surrounding electric vehicle (EV) drivers. The campaign is designed to speak directly to drivers who remain hesitant about switching to electric, confronting common clichés head-on.
Targeting those who might think EVs are only for ‘tech bros’ or ‘smoothie-loving hipsters’, Škoda uses humour to show that their electric cars are made for everyone. The campaign centres on a 60-second TV and cinema spot set in a typical British cul-de-sac, where curious neighbours watch a new family arrive in their Škoda EV. Wild speculations abound – from cult membership to crypto investments – only to be hilariously disproven when the family turns out to be perfectly ordinary.
Beyond the TV spot, the campaign is supported by a series of social-first films and animations. These 45-second pieces, hosted on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, invite viewers to challenge EV clichés. Shorter 20- and 6-second clips, along with animated content mimicking neighbourhood WhatsApp chats, round out the campaign with shareable humour and relatability.
To help demystify electric vehicle ownership, the campaign introduces ‘Ask Škoda’ – a paid social media series where neighbourhood characters pose real-world EV questions. This initiative aims to educate and empower potential buyers while highlighting the versatility and practicality of Škoda’s electric range.
Created in partnership with Leo Burnett UK, the campaign uses British humour and sharp social commentary to connect with a broad audience. This team previously delivered Škoda’s award-winning campaign ‘The Redditor Edit’, which earned multiple Cannes Lions accolades.
“There’s a tendency in the auto industry to treat electric cars as a completely separate category, which can reinforce a sense of ‘otherness’. That’s one of the factors holding some drivers back from making the switch from petrol and diesel,” said Kirsten Stagg, Head of Marketing, Škoda UK.
“With this campaign, we wanted to show that Škoda simply makes great cars – some of which just happen to be electric. And we wanted to do it in a bold, creative, and hopefully clever way that makes people smile.”
The ‘Electric, but Škoda’ campaign is now live on national TV and across social media. Keep an eye out for the ad and explore our electric range at West End Garage Škoda.
