Motability Scheme questions answered

Find practical answers below, with links to the Motability Scheme's official guidance.

Who can join the Motability Scheme in Scotland?

You need a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months remaining. Scottish allowances include the enhanced mobility rate of Adult Disability Payment, the higher mobility rate of Child Disability Payment and the higher mobility rate of Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance. Other qualifying allowances include the enhanced mobility rate of PIP and higher mobility rate of DLA. See the full eligibility and allowance guidance.

What is a Motability Advance Payment?

An Advance Payment is an upfront amount required for some vehicles, in addition to the mobility allowance used for your lease. It is not a refundable deposit. Compare the amount on each offer and read Motability's guide to payments.

Does £0 Advance Payment mean the car is free?

No. Where a £0 Advance Payment offer is available, no Advance Payment is required, but the agreed mobility allowance payments still fund the lease. Check the individual offer for its full payment terms and any optional extras.

What is included with a Motability car?

The car lease package includes insurance, servicing and maintenance, breakdown assistance, replacement tyres and windscreen cover, subject to Scheme terms. Fuel or electricity for your journeys is an ongoing cost to consider. Read what the Motability package includes, including the mileage allowance that applies to your order.

Can I join if I do not drive?

Yes, eligible customers can nominate drivers. The Scheme allows up to three approved drivers, and the car must be used by the disabled customer or for their benefit. Read the named-driver rules before choosing your car.

Are there suitable cars for drivers under 25?

Some Scheme vehicles are suitable, but power and insurance-group restrictions apply. Ask our team to check the exact version for your proposed driver. See Motability's restrictions for younger drivers.

Can I choose an automatic or electric Škoda?

Check the current offers above for automatic and electric versions. Availability depends on the model and specification. If you are considering electric, discuss charging at home or nearby, your usual journeys and current Motability electric-car support before ordering.

Can a Motability car be adapted for my needs?

Adaptations can help with driving, access or storing mobility equipment. Suitability depends on the vehicle and your requirements, so discuss this before ordering. Some adaptations are available at no extra cost when arranged at the start of the lease. Explore Motability's adaptations guidance.

How do I arrange a Motability test drive in Edinburgh?

Contact West End Garage Škoda Edinburgh to request a test drive. Tell us your preferred model and any adaptations or access needs so we can check a suitable demonstration vehicle and appointment time.

How do I apply or choose my next Motability car?

Speak to our Edinburgh team after comparing the offers. If you already have a Scheme car, contact us ahead of your renewal to discuss your next vehicle. You can start many applications through your Motability online account; check Motability's application and document checklist before your appointment.
